Position Openings: 
Rice University’s Center for the Study of Languages invites applications for a full-time appointment for a Coordinator of Chinese language and Lecturer in Mandarin. This is a two-year, renewable appointment with a 3/2 teaching load, to begin 1 July 2010. Requirements: M.A., native or near-native in Mandarin, experience coordinating a language program, training in foreign language pedagogy, some degree of proficiency with instructional technology. Responsibilities include: planning of courses and schedules, advising students, supervising tutors, facilitating in-service training, providing liaison with the Directors of the CSL and the Chao Center for Asian Studies and other duties as assigned by the Director of the CSL. Rice University seeks a full-time Lecturer to teach French language courses in its Center for the Study of Languages (CSL) and to work with the Director to conduct research design in second language pedagogy and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL). Research will be to enhance pedagogical practices of CSL faculty and to support institutional goals of effectiveness. Other responsibilities as determined by Director. Candidates should demonstrate a sound understanding of modern communicative approaches to language teaching and learning, including task-based proficiency-oriented instruction. Applicants should have a native or near-native fluency in French and hold at least an MA degree, preferably in SLAT or applied linguistics. The appointment is at the rank of Lecturer, beginning 1 July 2010. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.
